Despite 20 points from freshman Tori Kuhn, QHS fell at home Thursday night in a Western Big Six matchup. Click here for The Whig story.
Alleman beat Quincy by a combined 55 points in the two meetings last year, but the Blue Devils gave notice this is a whole new regime by taking a 10-9 first-quarter lead, with Kuhn scoring all of her team's points.
But Alleman went on a 10-0 run and led 26-16 by halftime. QHS (1-7, 0-2 in the WB6) scored the first six points of the third quarter, but were never able to get closer than four points. Junior Shelby Wires sank two 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to help the Blue Devils keep it close.
At one point freshmen Anna Leenerts, Breanna Scholfield and Kuhn were on the floor at the same time. Almost every player saw significant time.
The junior varsity improved to 2-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference by holding on for a 41-38 win, weathering a flurry of late 3-point attempts by Alleman. Scholfield had 11 points and Darion Stephens added 10 for QHS.
